i'm walkin', yes siree

Last night I walked home from work. Simmer down, it's only about 4 miles. But like your grandparents used to say, it was all uphill. It took me about an hour and 15 minutes or so, which is not too shabby in my opinion. All in all, I took about 16,000 steps yesterday, which may be a new record.

This was my route:

I have to recommend this website to anyone who enjoys walking (or walks, but doesn't enjoy it) and wants to know how far they've gone. Mr. Bump and I usually take some sort of walk at lunch, and it lets me know how far we've gone on any given route.

Anyway, it was such a lovely long walk, with gorgeous weather, so I think I'm going to try to do it more often. At least once a week, weather depending.

Incidentally, I also got a new pedometer, which is pretty awesome. You don't have to clip it to your pants or your belt. In fact, you can carry it in your pocket or purse any which way. It resets itself at midnight and stores 7 days worth of steps. You can calculate calories, aerobic steps (not sure what this one is, exactly), miles, or steps. There's nothing like a new gadget to recommit yourself to something.

What's the point of all this fitness talk, you say? Well, I'm ashamed to say that I've slipped a little. I never made it to that elephant's penis, in fact I've slid back to a small bale of hay. But! I'm recommitting myself to the project, and my new goal is somewhere between a gold brick and a newborn calf. I'll keep you posted on how it's going.

I'm inspired. I've been having my own weight angst, so it's good to know I'm not alone. Jumped over to Amazon and bought the same pedometer. I'm curious to see how much walking I'm doing on the hills.

Yay! The only cranky bit of the pedometer is that you have to measure your stride, which can take a little math and a tape measure. The weight is a never-ending struggle, I'm learning. I keep thinking I'd like to just be done with it, but that isn't happening!
